Bio
Nato a Orsara, Lucio Ferrara studia clarinetto prima di passare alla chitarra. Si trasferisce a Bologna e si diploma in Jazz al Conservatorio “G.B. Martini” di Bologna, successivamente si specializza al Conservatorio di Adria. Oltre trent’anni di carriera musicale iniziata in ambito italiano con pluriennali esperienze nel tentetto di Bruno Tommaso e numerosi riconoscimenti raccolti dal suo quintetto con cui realizza il primo CD. Negli stessi anni svolge un’esperienza prolungata di apprezzato sideman. Dopo un breve periodo a Roma, nel 2012 si trasferisce negli Stati Uniti, dove svolge intensa e qualificata l’attività con centinaia di concerti nei principali Jazz Club di NY (Dizzy’s, Smalls, Fat Cat) e Jazz Festival (Rochester Jazz Festival, Bud Powell Jazz Festival). A New York suona con moltissimi musicisti della sua generazione fra cui Peter Bernstein, Harry Allen, Joe Magnarelli, Greg Hutchinson, Doug Weiss, Joe Farnsworth, Francisco Mela. Ha suonato con Jazz master quali Benny Golson, Joey de Francesco, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Harold Mabern, Lee Konitz e con quest’ultimo ha realizzato il CD “It’s All right with me”. Intensa anche l’attività didattica, ha insegnato chitarra jazz al Lagos Jazz Festival (Portogallo), Tuscia in Jazz e La Spezia Jazz Workshop. Dal 2004 è direttore e docente ai Seminari Internazionali di Musica Jazz di Orsara. È stato direttore dei seminari di Tuscia in Jazz e La Spezia Jazz nel 2010 e 2011. Nel 2014 ritorna in Italia, iniziando un’intensa attività didattica nei conservatori Italiani. Ha insegnato Chitarra Jazz nei Conservatori di Avellino, Cosenza, Sassari, Udine, Benevento, Lecce, Livorno, Trapani, Monopoli, Bari e attualmente insegna al Conservatorio “Nicolini” di Piacenza.

Martini” Conservatory of Bologna, later specializing at the Conservatory of Adria. Over thirty years of music career experience, starting in Italy with extensive years in Bruno Tommaso’s tentet and numerous awards collected by his quintet with which he made his first CD. In the same years he performs as an appreciated sideman. After a short period in Rome, in 2012 he moved to the United States, where he carries out intense and qualified activity with hundreds of concerts in the main NY Jazz Clubs (Dizzy’s, Smalls, Fat Cat) and Jazz Festivals (Rochester Jazz Festival, Bud Powell Jazz Festival). In New York he plays with many musicians of his generation including Peter Bernstein, Harry Allen, Joe Magnarelli, Greg Hutchinson, Doug Weiss, Joe Farnsworth, Francisco Mela. He has played with jazz masters such as Benny Golson, Joey de Francesco, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Harold Mabern, and Lee Konitz, and with the latter he released the CD “It’s All right with Me.” Intense teaching activity as well, he has taught jazz guitar at Lagos Jazz Festival (Portugal), Tuscia in Jazz and La Spezia Jazz Workshop. He has been director and teacher at the Orsara International Jazz Music Workshops since 2004. He was director of the Tuscia in Jazz and La Spezia Jazz workshops in 2010 and 2011. In 2014 he returned to Italy, beginning an intense teaching activity in Italian conservatories. He has taught Jazz Guitar in the Conservatories of Avellino, Cosenza, Sassari, Udine, Benevento, Lecce, Livorno, Trapani, Monopoli, Bari and currently teaches at the Conservatorio “Nicolini” in Piacenza.
